Help Fight Cancer - sign up for easy study at Relay for Life 5/1
April 1, 2010 by president.
What if you could make it so just one family never had to hear the words “you have cancer?”
What if you could personally participate in research that could help determine factors that cause or prevent cancer?
What if that research ultimately leads to the elimination of cancer as a major health problem for future generations?
This year, you can be a part of a historic research effort by enrolling and encouraging others to enroll in the American Cancer Society’s Cancer Prevention Study-3 (CPS-3). CPS-3 will help us better understand the genetic, environmental and lifestyle factors that cause or prevent cancer. This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to become personally involved in research.
Enrollment for CPS-3 will take place at Relay For Life Westlake, Westlake High School Chap stadium, Saturday, May 1, 2010 6:30pm – 10:30pm
Who can join the study?
Anyone who will commit to the study long term, is between the ages of 30–65 and who has never been diagnosed with cancer. You do not have to be a registered Relay participant to enroll.
How can you volunteer?
By enrolling in CPS-3! You can enroll at the Westlake Relay For Life, Saturday, May 1st 6:30pm – 10:30pm at Westlake High School Chap stadium. Enrollment is a simple, two-phase process:
At Relay, you will be asked to complete a brief survey, provide a waist measurement, and give a small amount of blood (similar to a doctor’s visit), collected by a certified, trained phlebotomist.
At home, you will also be asked to complete a more-detailed survey that asks questions related to medical history, lifestyle and behaviors. Periodically, you will receive a survey at home to update that information.
What else can you do? Tell everyone you know about this historic opportunity to make a difference in the fight against cancer!
For more information, visit www.cancer.org/cps3 or call 888-604-5888
For more info call Joan Grable 512-585-6897 or HYPERLINK “mailto:jgrable@ft.newyorklife.com” jgrable@ft.newyorklife.com to sign up. I need name, age, phone and email. This is a long term commitment so be sure you want to do it!

2010 5K Sponsorship Opportunities
March 10, 2010 by LauraHirschfeld.
Dear Rollingwood,As most of you know, Rollingwood has a 5K race every year or so (fundsbenefit Rollingwood parks and public areas). This year the race is Friday,April 23 at 5:30 PM. We have a limited number of sponsors who get theirnames on banners, the very cool and much-worn tee shirts, and of course adsand information in the race bags that reach so many residents ofRollingwood and Westlake. You KNOW we all love to support the businessesthat support our community, so it’s a great way to reach an awesome andloyal group of customers as well as to do good in your own neighborhood. After every single race many of our Rollingwood residents with their ownbusinesses come to us and ask why we didn’t call THEM, they reallywish they had known and could have participated. We didn’t KNOW! Wealways start with our list of previous sponsors and the response is alwaysexcellent, so by the time we can reach out to other businesses the spaces onthe tee shirts and banners are filled up.The fact is, we want YOU, our ROLLINGWOOD residents’ businesses to havefirst dibs on the banners and tee shirts, so here’s your chance! If you are interested in sponsoring the Life is Good in the Wood 5K andgetting your business information in the race bag or your logo on the teeshirt and banners (and of course the website), contact Laura Hirschfeld atlaura@h-consulting.com or call 619.9227.Price - SUPER reasonable considering what you get:
Please call soon, Tee Shirt spots especially are limited.Laura HirschfeldFundraising Chair, Life is Good in the Wood 5kPresident, Rollingwood Women’s Clublaura@h-consulting.com 619.9227
