Microchip for Pets Recommended

It’s sad to lose a beloved pet, and seeing so many recent postings of a lost dog prompts this suggestion:  Microchip Your Pet.  It’s painless, inexpensive, and easy.  Most vets will do it.  Tags get lost.  Collars get pulled off.  But the microchip will identify your animal when there is no other way to do it.  Town Lake Animal Center checks all animals that come into the shelter for a microchip and will have a way to contact the owner when they have a chip to read.  And the sooner a pet and its owner can be reunited, the better!

Don’t waste water or you’ll pay more Waste Water $!

Just a reminder that the City is currently monitoring your water usage to determine your waste water billing rate.  The more H20 that you use for the next few months, the higher your sewer bill will be for the rest of the year.

Conserving water is always a good idea, but it pays extra dividends in the winter!

Great Schools = Great Community = Great Values

Why is our neighborhood such a desirable place to live?  We know there are striking homes, beautifully landscaped lots, nice neighbors, Fourth of July parades, trees galore, but what has led homebuyers to this area in the first place?

For many of us, the excellence of the Eanes school district was the magnetic force that drew us here.   We knew we wanted the best school system around, either because we have school-age kids, and they can thrive in Eanes schools; or we don’t have kids, but our home’s value is safe because there will always be homebuyers who will pay a premium for the best schools.    Either way, our excellent school system is the backbone that gives our community its stability, vitality and quality.

Now this backbone could use some support!   While Eanes ISD offers wonderful programs and staffing that other districts don’t (such as nurses, counselors, librarians, math and reading interventionists, Gifted/Talented teachers, etc), these “luxuries” are in part paid for by fundraising through the Eanes Education Foundation (EEF).

We’re asking all neighbors to donate to EEF’s Annual Giving Campaign this fall to maintain and enhance the excellence in our schools.  Net proceeds from the Campaign fund teacher and staff salaries and positions in our district for the 2008-2009 school year.   That’s right – you’re actually helping to add teacher positions in our schools by giving to this Campaign!

And one last thing…  We recently got our 2007 property tax bill in the mail and have finally noticed the state-mandated decrease in the property tax rate.  If you’re like me, and you hadn’t really planned on the savings, wouldn’t those savings be a great source for an EEF donation?  I’ll be sending in some of mine!

Let’s work together to keep our schools (and neighborhood) great!   Please go online at www.eaneseducationfoundation.org to learn more and donate.  For more information, contact your local EEF Campus Representatives Laura Hirschfeld (4900 Timberline) and Stephanie Kernaghan (422 Ridgewood), or EEF Board members, Marilyn Kounnas (400 Nixon) and Luci Miller (423 Brady).
