Not masked bandits - just escaped raccoons, but they’re wanted!
August 25, 2008 by president.
The Austin Nature Center had their raccoon enclosure broken into sometime in the night and the two raccoons are missing. They looking for them on their grounds and in the preserve, and fully expect to see them about dinner time.
However, they wanted to alert Rollingwood residents to be aware that if a raccoon appears too friendly, it might not be sick, just tame. DO NOT PICK THEM UP. If you hear any reports of a friendly set of raccoons, please call them at 327-8181 and give the location information, and contact information to our front desk folks. Wildlife staff can be reached at 327-8181 ext 18.
The raccoons are Yoli and Pepper, and the male is extra large. They will probably be traveling together, and looking for water bowls. They do bite, so resist your normal urges to cuddle with wild raccoons. If your urge to cuddle raccoons persists after reading this post, please consult with the animal shelter and adopt a cat.
